How To Use: Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender:

Lavender is a herb and part of the mint family.

Romans used lavender to scent the water of their baths and today you can often find a pouch of lavender swinging in a wardrobe or inside a drawer to keep moths away from the clothes contained within.

The Most Common Uses Of Lavender Essential Oil:

Soothes occasional skin irritations, mild burns, bites and rashes.

Reduces anxious feelings, calms the nervous system and supports a restful nights sleep.

Helps to ease feelings of tension, restlessness and stress.

Key Properties Of Lavender Essential Oil:

Analgesic: a remedy which relieves or allays pain.

Anticoagulant: an agent which reduces the ease or prevents the blood from clotting.

Anticonvulsant: an agent which reduces the likelihood/blocks convulsions (seizures) of the voluntary muscles.

Antidepressant: a substance which can be used to improve depressive and/or regulate manic moods.

Antifungal: a substance which inhibits the growth of a fungus (e.g., yeasts and moulds).

Antihistamine: compounds or medicines which neutralise or inhibit the effect of histamine in the body, used primarily to treat allergies and colds.

Anti-infectious: a substance which fights and counters the effects of an infection.

Anti-inflammatory: a substance which acts to reduce signs of inflammation, such as swelling, tenderness, fever, and pain.

Antimicrobial: a substance which is destructive to or inhibits the growth of microorganisms.

Anti-mutagenic: a substance which is capable of reducing the frequency of mutation.

Antiseptic: a substance which frees something from or cleans something of germs and other microorganisms.

Antispasmodic: a substance which stops/blocks spasms which occur in a muscle or within muscle groups (e.g., cramps, twitches or tics)

Anti-toxic: a substance which counters toxic (poisonous) influences.

Anti-tumour: an agent that decreases the rate at which a tumour can grow, weakens the tumour or kills a tumour completely.

Cardio-tonic: a substance which causes a 'tonic effect' on the action of the heart (meaning more powerful contractions of the heart muscles).

Regenerative: a substance which replaces a lost or damaged organ/part of an organ by the formation of new tissue (e.g., repairing broken skin, the liver recovering from sclerosis or the knitting together new bones after a break).

Sedative: an agent which will calm, soothe or reduce irritability/excitement, assuaging pain and lower functional activity of the body/brain.

Constituent Properties Of dōTERRA Lavender Essential Oil:

Linalyl Acetate is an Ester, and its chemical make-up is best known to:

How To Get More From Your Lavender Essential Oil:

Add 2-4 drops of Lavender to bedding, the bath or the bottoms of your feet at bedtime to promote a restful nights sleep.

Keep a bottle of Lavender on hand to soothe occasional skin irritations, minor burns and reduce irritation from bites/stings.

Apply 1-2 drops to your pulse points (wrists, temples or back of neck) to reduce anxious, stressful or negative feelings.

Use in cooking to soften citrus flavours and add a floral twist to cake frostings, marinades, and milkshakes.

How To Get The Best Results From Your Lavender Essential Oil:

Diffusion: Use 3-4 drops into your diffuser and run for 15 minutes in every hour. Use no more than 12 drops of essential oil in a diffuser at a time.

Internal use: Dilute 1 drop in a half-pint glass of water. *Only use essential oils in glasses made from stainless steel or glass*

Topical use: Apply 1-2 drops directly to the desired area and layer with doTERRA Fractionated Coconut Oil (rate 1 drop of lavender to 1 drop of carrier oil (1:1)) to reduce absorption rates and minimise any skin sensitivity (see additional information below). Use no more than 8 drops (adult) of an essential oil at one time and re-apply as necessary every 2-4 hours.

Bath use: Add 2-3 drops into the bath while it's running. Use no more than 6 drops (adult) in the bath at a time.

Cautions Related To dōTERRA Lavender Essential Oil:

It is possible there may be a skin sensitivity when using Lavender essential oil topically. Use alongside doTERRA Fractionated coconut oil to reduce any skin sensitivities.

Make sure you keep your family safe and have all of your essential oils somewhere out of reach of children.

If you are pregnant, nursing, or under a doctor’s care, please make sure you talk to your doctor before undergoing a different health care routine.

Avoid contact with eyes, inner ears, and sensitive areas at all times. If essential oils do get into your eyes, use doTERRA Fractionated coconut to gently soothe any irritation. ** Do not use water as this will increase any irritation **
